Daily Dispatch from Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005Dispatcher Comments:
I am no reporter...but here are a few of the hightlights of last night's Bates Area Civic Association meeting. This is by no means official.
-Three police officers were present to report crime statistics. Not bad since I've been at PSA meetings with less officers. Several attendees mentioned problem locations and I was impressed with the officer's knowledge of the areas...even down to exact addresses.
-William Howland, Director and Jacqueline Brooks, Inspector of DC Department of Public Works spoke about DPW's responsibilities and issues in our community. If you have issues to be addresed by DPW please e-mail Jim Berry at jberry@truxtoncircle.org or Jacqueline Brooks at jacqueline.brooks@dc.gov.
-A woman from Community Greens gave a presentation about their program. It's basically about resident's merging portions of their backyards...or working with city governments to transform alleys into shared community gardens. Interesting stuff. For more info go to www.communitygreens.org.
-Jim Berry put out a call for volunteers to organize a neighborhood clean-up. If you are interested please contact him at jberry@truxtoncircle.org.
-Mary Ann W. spoke about Flower Power 2K5 and the first meeting of a garden club specifically for TC. Details about the first meeting are listed below in the caledar section of this e-mail.
-Art S., Chairman of the Land Use, Planning, and Economic Develpment Committee gave a report which included the Area Retail Business document and map linked below. If you are interested in being on this committee please contact him at artman@truxtoncircle.org. Anita Bonds, Truxton Circle resident who works with Councilmember Kwame Brown also spoke on this issue urging truxtonites to get involved.
At that point the sugar-rush from the chocolate chip cookies and apple cider hit.
If I missed anything...or you saw it differently...please e-mail me at scott@truxtoncircle.org and I will include your thoughts in tomorrow's Dispatch.
Cheers!
